The metal barriers on the platform at Howard separated the base fare area from the extra fare area, as at the time, there was a differential collected from riders transferring to the northbound Evanston or Skokie trains at Howard. Such barriers were also used on the Lake Street Line, though for different reasons. Note the old-style A/B sign on the platform wall.
