Metropolitan Railway 8 in a Brill builders photo
This picture shows that packages and freight were carried by streetcar in Manhattan. Some Department. stores had a siding for this service, but it didn't last long as electric battery trucks with solid rubber tires with greater flexibility soon took over and these freight cars were sold off.
A few builders photos exist but I've not seen a photo of a car on the street. Some old timers with very long memories said that the cars ran only at night.
