Brooklyn & Queens
Transit
8459 at the corner of Flatbush
Avenue and Ocean Avenue where they meet Empire Blvd. I vaguely remember
a Flying A station there. It looks like it could be Prospect Park
in the background. However, I have some doubts because I don't recognize
the white house behind the fence. It may have been torn down before
I was born or old enough to be aware of such things. In addition, I thought
that they may have been a kiosk or other non-residential structure at that
location. Also, I wouldn't expect an 8000 Peter Witt on Flatbush
Avenue. I assume that the picture was taken in the 40's by the truck in
the background. At that time, the 6000 series one-pole cars were
used there. Unless it was after 1947, I also would expect to see trolley
wire on Ocean Avenue or some tracks. It may just be the angle of
the picture.
