81 inbound leaving Aronimink Station at Burmont Rd. This is west of Drexel Hill and east of the short turn rush hour location at Drexelbrook. The line is double tracked here.
In the 1970s, after SEPTA acquired Red Arrow from the privately-owned PSTC, one of the top priorities was double tracking the short stretch of single track between Drexelbrook and Scenic Rd in Springfield, which provided continuous double track from 69th St to Woodland Ave at Springfield. The single track section near Drexelbrook crossed Darby Creek and the bridge abutments were built in 1912-1913 for eventual double tracking.
Aronimink lent its name in the 1930s to the bus subsidiary of Philadelphia and West Chester Traction. Eventually both were folded into a new corporate entity, PSTC, which after World War II added the third rail Philadelphia and Western to its system.
