The railroad was the Penn Central Monongahela Secondary at the time of the photo. The photo was taken during a fantrip in March of 1968 on the last day the 53-CARRICK followed its traditional routing through the South Side.

The railroad was the Penn Central Monongahela Secondary at the time of the photo. The photo was taken during a fantrip in March of 1968 on the last day the 53-CARRICK followed its traditional routing through the South Side. The following day 53 began following the 47 CARRICK VIA TUNNEL routing - albeit continuing to use the 53 route name and number. 1780 and the few other remaining GE-equipped 1700 series cars were retired at the same time. The 48-ARLINGTON was discontinued the same weekend.
