Southern Iowa #9 in July 1963. It was running mid-street on W. Madison St., in Centerville.
The east end of the line came within a 1/2 block of Haines Ave which ran north and; south while the railroad ran west out of town before turning toward the north.
I graduated from high school in Centerville in 1956, left town shortly thereafter and never knew of the fan trips until it was too late.
My good friend Jim Poffenberger's dad was the general manager when the road was owned by Iowa Southern Utilities and why we didn't spend more time hanging around the railroad is one of life's great mysteries
