Streetcar service in Somerset began in 1907 by the Somerset Water, Light and Traction Co. By 1908 it was in receivership and was reorganized. By 1911 it was being operated by Union Water, Electric and Traction. By 1912, Samuel Insull bought it, and it became the Kentucky Utility Co.

Cars continued to run until March 1925
