PCC 1644 is at Dawn Jct at the south end of the 1000 foot (305 meter) Palm Garden Trestle. At the far end is Palm Garden, the southernmost edge of the South Hills Yards, which is immediately adjacent to South Hills Junction. The trestle was the exclusive domain of the 42 Dormont and 43 Neeld, from the early 1900s until 1939 when the ramp from W Liberty Ave was constructed to allow the 38 Mt Lebanon and 39 Brookline to avoid traffic congestion at the Liberty Tubes. From about 1906-07 until 1909 the Charleroi Interurban used the 42 Dormont in both directions. The 42 Dormont was all prw, center-of-the-highway on Broadway through Beechview. About a mile of Broadway in Beechview was paved in the very late 1930s.
